Corps members work alongside elite coaches, educators, and administrators, gaining invaluable skills and experience as they lead fencing sessions for students during our summer camps.
Coaching Development
Receive comprehensive training in coaching principles and techniques from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club's elite coaches and Olympians. You'll cover essential skills including leading effective group lessons, managing classroom dynamics, inspiring and motivating students, and mastering foundational teaching pedagogy. You'll also gain a deep understanding of TMFC's Youth Development Model and curriculum, equipping you to teach and mentor students effectively.
Hands-On Teaching Experience
Throughout TMFC's summer camps, you will actively teach and coach under the guidance of our experienced staff. This hands-on approach allows you to apply what you learn in real-time, helping you develop the essential skills, habits, and confidence needed to grow as a coach and educator.
Club Operations & Business Skills
Gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a top fencing club through cross-training in key areas: marketing, data management, customer service, and organizing community events. You'll develop skills in parent communication across social media and other channels, and learn to navigate client relationship management (CRM) software to efficiently manage interactions and ensure a seamless customer experience.
Mentorship & Lifelong Connections
Learn from incredible mentors, including some of the top coaches and athletes in the world. You'll work alongside passionate and highly motivated educators, building invaluable skills and experiences that will serve you in fencing or any career path. Along the way, you'll forge lifelong friendships and connections with a community that shares your enthusiasm for teaching and personal growth.
As part of the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club team, you will develop both technical coaching skills and professional abilities that translate to any career.
Running Effective Group Sessions
Engage and manage groups of young fencers with clear goals, structured activities, and fun โ learning to hold a room and keep kids energized.
Teaching Pedagogy & Lesson Planning
Understand how to break down fencing concepts into effective teaching strategies and structured lesson plans that build progressively.
TMFC's Youth Development Model
Learn our proven approach to developing young athletes in a fun, rigorous, and supportive environment โ the framework behind everything we do.
The Business of Fencing
Get a 360-degree view of fencing club operations, including program development, scheduling, customer relations, and what it takes to run a top club.
Private & Small Group Instruction
Build the skills to deliver impactful one-on-one and small-group coaching sessions โ the bread and butter of professional coaching.
Camp & Event Leadership
Learn how to execute a first day of camp successfully, make campers feel welcome, and lead fun introductory fencing activities that hook kids on the sport.
๐ Schedule
Monday to Friday, approximately 40 hours per week. The internship runs from June 6 to August 10, with flexibility to accommodate school schedules and Summer Nationals.
๐ฐ Stipend
$8,000 for the summer, plus complimentary club membership during the internship.
๐ Locations
Tim Morehouse Fencing Club has 4 facilities on the East and West Side of Manhattan, Westchester, and New Canaan, CT. Orientation takes place at our Manhattan locations.
โ๏ธ Special Experiences
Some corps members travel to Summer Nationals to support TMFC students competing, as well as working at the Harvard Coaches and Olympians Sleep-Away Camp in Massachusetts.

Not provided, but we can connect interns with resources for reduced-cost housing options in the city.
๐ Orientation & Learning
Start with a two-day orientation followed by themed weekly lessons that progressively deepen your understanding of coaching and club operations.
Over the course of the summer, TMFC introduces 300 to 400 children between the ages of 7 and 12 to the sport of fencing across our Manhattan, Westchester, and New Canaan, CT facilities. As a corps member, you'll be at the center of that โ creating lasting memories and inspiring a new generation of lifelong fencers.
The Fencing Corps experience will be rewarding, challenging, and help you build the foundation for a future in the business of fencing โ or any field where coaching, leadership, and working with people matters.
